Simmons’s evocative account of her remarkable trajectory from Jim Crow Texas, where she was the youngest of twelve children in a sharecropping family, to the presidencies of Smith College and Brown University. “The book shines with tenderness and dignity.”

As we age some of us have family or friends who will provide care or support for us if needed, and some of us do not. Even if we have children, they may not be available or able to provide support. Discuss your feelings, experiences and concerns surrounding aging without family or social support. Share ideas about ways to strengthen your social and safety networks.
Facilitated conversation by 2 trained facilitators who have been trained to talk about topics related to aging. This is a safe space for everyone to share and explore topics in greater depth, and offers an opportunity to connect with others in our Village community.
Presented by Cascadia Health: Conversations on Aging in partnership with NE Village.

This group meets monthly. Depending on the size of the group we will meet either in one of our homes or in a room at the Rose City Park United Methodist Church. Our goal is to have a quiet, comfortable place where people can hear each other and share feelings, thoughts and questions in a supportive environment.
The group is intended to serve anyone who has suffered a loss recently or in the past and is looking for support in navigating a new reality, sharing their experience or finding resources to cope with grief, loss or the challenges of living on one’s own.
There is no moderator for this group. We are simply people who share the experience of having lost someone dear to us and are looking for support or to provide support to others in a similar situation.
